GSVKC has a number of programs and activities to support the sport of purebred dogs and encourage responsible pet ownership.

Dog Shows and Obedience Trials
GSVKC holds two All Breed Dog Shows and Obedience Trials each year. Our Spring show is held in Sierra Vista, and our Fall show is held at the Pima County Fairgrounds as part of the three day (Friday-Sunday) Coyote Classic. The other Coyote Classic member club is the Tucson Kennel Club.   NOTE: Only dogs eligible to be entered for competition at the show may be on the show grounds. For more information on Dog Shows and Obedience Trials, please visit the American Kennel Club web site.

GSVKC's Catalogs for Food

Every year at our May show, we allow people to donate 4 cans of pet food or 4 cans of people food for one of our show catalogs, usually priced at $5. The pet food is donated to the Cochise County Humane Society who provide free dog and cat food to low income pet owners. The people food is donated to the local food bank. We've had this program in place for many years now and would like to encourage other kennel clubs to try it.

AKC B/OB Match
We hold a match the Saturday before our May show on the show grounds. A match gives people a chance to practice confirmation and obedience, and bring out their old friends for the parade of champions. For more information on AKC B/OB Matches, please visit the American Kennel Club web site.  For more information about our annual match, contact Match Chairman, Stacy Speer.

Canine Good Citizen Test
Held in the late afternoon or early evening after the match, the Canine Good Citizen Test gives owners the opportunity to prove their canines are good pets. While the Canine Good Citizen Test is a program developed by the AKC to prove any canine, purebred or mixed, a worthy companion, because it is held on the show grounds, our test is only open to purebred dogs. For more information on the Canine Good Citizen test, please visit the American Kennel Club web site.  For more information on our annual CGC test contact Kathy Zmudzinski.

GSVKC Spaying & Neutering Program
Every year the kennel club spends thousands of dollars on a program to spay and neuter dogs in the greater Sierra Vista area. Only two dogs per year per household are done. The spaying or neutering is free, but the owner must pay for any required shots and any extra cost incurred because of the dog being in heat or pregnant.

GSVKC Training Classes
The Greater Sierra Vista Kennel Club frequently holds training classes on Saturday mornings at Palominas Elementary School. These informal handling classes provide an opportunity for you and your dog to practice AKC conformation or obedience - it's great socialization for your canine. Times for these classes change seasonally, with no classes on show weekends and sometimes long breaks during the warmer months. To sign yourself up to receive notification of upcoming training classes, please visit http://www.gsvkc.org/mailman/listinfo/training_gsvkc.org. Being a member of this mail list allows you to stay informed about upcoming classes. Please take a moment to sign yourself up on this new list even if you were on the previous list to receive e-mail notifications in the past. If you have any questions about our handling classes, please email trainer@gsvkc.org.

GSVKC Breeder Referral Service
The local, weekly newspapers, Huachuca Scout and Mountain View News, as well as the daily paper, the Sierra Vista Herald, all run an ad for us encouraging people to call and find out information before they buy a puppy. If you want information about a specific breed, to include Arizona breeders and rescue programs for that breed, please contact Kathy Zmudzinski.
